The compound butter category is underdeveloped in most specialty retail dairy cases — and Bifrost Butters was made to change that. Rooted in European culinary tradition and handcrafted, Bifrost brings a category of finishing butter that has lived exclusively behind the kitchen doors of fine restaurants to the specialty retail shelf. With no comparable product currently in U.S. retail, the white space is real — and the consumer appetite for gourmet, chef-credentialed food experiences has never been stronger.
The current lineup features two flagship SKUs: Café de Paris Steak Butter, a complex, 20-ingredient finishing butter engineered to transform into a caramelized butter sauce the moment it hits heat — and Bourgogne Garlic Herb Butter, rooted in classic French bistro tradition, built on garlic, shallots, white wine, and fresh herbs for a bold, versatile profile that performs across proteins, pasta, bread, and more. A third variety, Provence Honey Herb Butter, arrives Summer 2026, extending the line into a sweeter, more delicate register — ideal for lamb, roasted vegetables, and artisan cheese pairings.
Bifrost Butters is currently carried in all 28 Lunds & Byerlys locations across the Twin Cities, as well as 10 locations of Kowalskis, with distribution available through Fortune Gourmet Food Distributors, Airgoods, and Faire. Over 70% of ingredients are locally sourced.
